Zune Podcast Support

Here we list everything we know about Zune's support for the Podcast. We will link to the sources for all of our Zune Podcasting claims. At the bottom is an official picture of the Zune interface (notice the last line on the screen) and some video of the Zune 2 in action.

First things first,iIt is not a rumor, Zune supports Podcasting fully and completely (audio and video). Fun to point out that it is not a sub-set or sub-menu of audio or video (like it is on the iPod), it is a category on the top level of the player.

Zune 1 users will be upgraded to the new Podcast-supporting platform. As Gizmodo points out, this is a very cool way to treat your customers and pretty exciting new for all early-adopter Zune users.

Zune will support bookmarking for Podcasts. Not only is this very cool, but is something you don't have on the iPod yet.

New Zunes will output 640×480 for video coded that way. Hi-res video Podcasts will look stellar on your television set. iPod already does this - nice to see Zune catching up.

Wireless sync will automatically update your Zune with the latest Podcasts downloaded to your computer once you are in the same network. There is no need to be tethered to your computer (and it does it in the background). iPod does neither of these things.

These Podcast updates are making many of the biggest Zune complainers change their song. Witness Podcasting News' recent "Five Reasons to Reconsider the Zune" and Geekbrief Episode #239 (can't wait to see what Cali says after she gets the "rumor" the Podcasting is supported confirmed).

  • I produce several radio shows.
The shows are turned into podcasts each week.
They appear fine on ITUNES and other podcast sites from the RSS feed.
I have as well as others have submitted the RSS feed to Zune for months.
    It has never been added.
I own a Zune but I intend on replacing it with an IPOD.
I got a new Zune as a gift and it did not work out of the box.
As it was a gift I did not have the reciept.
I was purchased from CompUSA who went out of business.
Microsoft would not honor the warrentee with the thing less than a week old.
They wanted me to ship it back for $100.
I tell all my listeners to go with an IPOD.
I like many things about the Zune better but it is clear to see Microsoft could care less about Zune customers.
    Stay Away!

    btw our RSS feed is

Not sure I understand the desire for getting podcasts over the wire. I never thought I would get into Podcasts but when Zune added it, I had to try it and it is now part of the morning routine, taking the place of reading the morning news. I think the issues is Podcasters will continue to push "subscribe to our Podcast with iTunes" because Zune doesn't offer a feedback function not to mention the lack of show notes.

  • This is good, but not good enough. Call me when the Zune can get podcasts directly from the net over wifi without having to sync to a PC.
