Zune HD Radio - Does It Matter?

One of the big selling points (from the Microsoft marketing team at least) for the Zune HD is the embedded HD radio.

Radio World, who has a vested interest in radio being part of the portable media player story, asks if "HD Radio Could Revive Microsoft's Zune."

So many things we could say about this one - and we will at some point - but before we go, this simple question to you our readers …

Zune HD Radio - do you care at all? If so, why? If not, why not?

We look forward to reading your comments below.

The radio was the biggest reason I purchased a Zune over iPod. Listen to the radio when I work out at the gym, ride the bus or go for a run. I love the fact I can tag a song and later purchase it online. Fantastic option. My music collection has increased thanks to KEXP and the tag feature. Will I want HD radio? Hmm, not sure. I certainly won't pay extra for it.

I really love the fact that HD radio is to be included. NPR will actually sound better for me! :)

As someone who takes mass transit to work every day, I use the radio on my current Zune 120 quite a bit, when I want to listen to public radio or as a break from my music/ book collection. I don't know that I care so much about the HD Radio, but, to me, its not a Zune if it doesn't have a radio.

I listen to HD Radio in the car already, and would certainly listen to it on Zune. It's very clean-sounding, and since it hasn't really taken off, there are almost NO commercial advertisements, especially when compared to the Clear Channel pollution of "idiotic call sign announcement and ten-second ad between every song". Yes, it's compelling. People who don't already own HDRadio receivers probably don't know what they're missing.
  • Yknow I cannot wait for the Zune HD for many reasons. The hope of a EQ (Though sadly no word on one). The already gorgous and impressive HD screen. The web browser. And for me the Zune HD radio.

In case my screen name and profile faves didn't tip you off I am a country lover. Sadly I live in NYC. So for me there has not been a country station here since I was in college 14 years ago. But there is a country station available via HD radio. So for me BRING IT ON!!!

As to Ipod fans: C'mon, the Itunes software gums up every PC I have ever found. ME, XP, Vista and 7. I swear Steve Jobs must make that software so crappy just to make people think their PCs are broken. Ipod fans just buy it for a name. There are many better products out there including the Zune. Course I am biased and think the Zune is the best.

It doesn't matter to people who already love the zune but it will matter to ipod switchers. I think Microsoft really needs to do alot of promotion because I don't understand why there are so many ipod lovers out there and I don't want this product to bomb out. I went to a music chain last week to look for zune accessories and they stated they stopped carrying them because no one was buying. Microsoft you have to do better my friend.

While radio has never been a big part of the Zune experience for me, (I use the radio in the car and that's about it), I have been excited to try out the hd radio. I've looked up the stations in the area that have hd channels and all my favorites do. Primarily, those stations are focused on certain types of music like deep cuts or music from a specific region of the world. I've always wanted to hear these stations but never could so when I get the Zune HD, that will probably be the first thing I try out!

Thats the one thing that doesn't really matter in my decision to buy a Zune HD, and I am going to buy one, or two :P
