Zune moving to mobile phone?

Today is just another day for Microsoft, or is it? Microsoft announced today that Zune Executive Joe Belfiore will be moving to the Mobile Communications Business, the group responsible for Windows Mobile. Also joining him will be Windows Home Server GM, Charlie Kindel. According to TechFlash, "Microsoft isn't saying exactly what the execs will be doing in their new roles. But it's becoming increasingly apparent that Windows Mobile is gearing up for something. Is Microsoft working on an iPhone competitor? Is this part of the company's plan to extend Zune capabilities to Windows Mobile and other devices?"

This sounds like very good news for Zune either way. If the Zune would be able to tap into the 3G or other phone network, can you imagine being able to download music and podcasts from wherever a phone signal is? It would definitely be a step beyond using your home network.

What do you think this would bring to the table for the Zune?
