Zune Home AV Pack v2 Review

I luv my Zune Home AV Pack (v2). I never had a v1 to compare it to but let me tell you why I think this product is so important and why it "changes" the game.

First things first, it just works as promised. The remote is gorgeous (and has one less button than the "it's so easy cause there are so few buttons" Apple TV remote) and also works on your xBox if you got one. The connectors are there for whatever Zune you may have (although remember that the Zune 4 and 8 don't do video out) and the design as quite sleek. If you're looking for a dock, this is the one to go with.

But, more importantly is why a Zune docked to the Zune Home AV Pack is a game changer.

When your Zune is docked to something with power and WIFI is on, the Zune will (in the background), check the network for new content and sync it with the device. Very very cool.

Practically, this means some very cool "real world" uses. In short, your Zune in your Zune Home AV Pack dock becomes the ultimate home entertainment system and the ultimate syncing solution.

Ultimate Home Entertainment System: Attach this to your home entertainment center and you have a "set it and forget it" kinda deal. Anything new on your desktop (Podcasts, new music, etc.) will be on your Zune when you need it. Curl up to the latest Ask a Ninja or Geekbrief on your television without having to sync a thing.

Ultimate Syncing Solution: For those of us who take the Zune with us, we know the big problem is syncing the new content. We come home from a day at work, a run, or a long plane trip and the Zune needs to be recharged and resynced the next time we want to use it. That, of course, requires that we turn on the computer, dock the thing, click sync, etc. Now, when we get home, we just put the thing in the Zune Home AV Pack.

It really is that easy.

And that powerful.

[...] But on that same TV a bit later that evening I watched an Ask A Ninja through my Zune Home AV Pack and then mellowed to some HD Yule Log action. [...]
