How Will Zune Be Part Of Microsoft's "Universal Mobile Platform?"

It's been all over the news that Ballmer is pretty big right now on his concept of a "Universal Mobile Platform." You can read the specifics at eWeek or PCWorld.

With the success of the iPhone, there has to be discussion of what part mobile entertainment plays in this universal mobile platform. It only makes sense.

With Zune's new launch and, gosh darn it, focus on not always being tethered to the computer, we know it somehow fits in nicely, right?

Nothing has been said yet of the engine behind the Zune 2 music subscription platform. Since everything in v1 was just a piecework of PlaysForSure (made sense, it was around), there is nothing that says that they have to stick to that system.

And then, of course, the rumors of a Zune phone …

Yeah, this is going to get really interesting.
