Zune and Podcasting - No Cause For Celebration Yet

ClicZun.com has has interesting piece called "Zune.net does the Promotion of Podcasts!"

Let's take a deeper look, shall we?

They mention a page at Zune.net called "Pass It On" and point out that the first option to "pass on" is a batch of NPR Podcasts.

Fascinating, until you read deeper.

Now, Zune.net, has always had this "How Do I Manage Podcast Content in Zune?" section that says

Podcast content is automatically downloaded to your PC by a podcast application you have installed on your PC. If you are new to podcasting, there are several popular podcast applications on the Web. To find one, simply search the Web for "receive podcasts" and you will find several to choose from.

You get the idea.

There is no support for Podcasting on Zune, … yet.

The article also makes note that NPR is pushing the listening of Podcasts on the Zune, complete with a special Zune button. This is a bit more interesting because that is, in fact, what NPR is doing. Look on any other page in their directory and you'll see a "Download to Zune" button, that although "nice sounding," has the exact same HTML at the "Download MP3" button right next to it.

It is nice to see Microsoft and NPR using the buzzwords Podcasting and Zune in the same sentence. And I do believe the two will be luving each other very soon (Podcasting and Zune - not Microsoft and NPR).

But this simply just ain't it … yet.
