Not So Sure About The Zune Plays For Sure
Well, this could get very interesting …
According to Jupiter Research, by way of ArsTechnica, many songs purchased from the Zune store will work on "other" Plays for Sure devices.
That's right. It appears as if there is some sort of Plays For Sure tag for Zune songs that the Zune looks for, but that other devices made before the Zune, don't know to look for, and therefore don't.
So, Zune can get Podcasts via Wifi, but doesn't - and can play Plays For Sure stuff, but has also chosen not to.
What a mess.
Is there hope for v2 of Zune, or has iPod already won?

iPod already won…Microsoft is getting hit by all sides…Sony with thier PS3 against XBOX, Google against MSN, and iPod against Zune…i thought about buying an iPod or not, after a while I bought it because it's an incredible machine….check my post relating to iPods http://desinotes.com/2006/11/23/should-you-buy-an-ipod/
I can't see microsoft wanting this battle again. The only chance they'd have is to intergrate a small version of windows into the player, otherwise it's over before it started.
I was able to play songs purchased at WalMart Music Downloads on my Zune with no conversion necessary, but could not play Zune Marketplace songs on an older Creative MuVo.
This is contrary to what many people have said. It appears the Zune CAN play the older DRM, even if it isn't entirely "Plays For Sure" compatible.
