Zune and the Reality of v1

You can't get to v3 of anything without going through v1 and v2.

Don't forget that the first iPod was $399 and carried 5 gig. Battery life was even less than what I expect from my Zune with Wifi.

v1 of Zune is gonna be v1 material - there is no way around that. All sources point to an upgradeable firmware so we just might see v2 in the v1 shell … or at least my dream goes accordingly.

And Microsoft has launched some very interesting v2 stuff. xBox 360 is doing gangbusters right now - despite the fact that she's only v2.

So, let's look to Zune's future, shall we?

Here's a post that claims Zune future is the phone. They even go so far as to say that this is where the battle for the PMPs will go.

Here's some reality for you - Microsoft has more experience with phones than Apple does. My phone right now is a Windows Mobile Phone and, I can tell you, it's a great little product.

Wifi and the Zune could a podcatching voip phone make - with just a simple firmware upgrade.

Now, how cool would that be?

[...] The Gizmodo review of Zune is pushing how she's "upgradeable."  Also, not a big surprise. [...]
